The Mobile Genealogist

Although not specifically related to “Mobile Genealogy”, I found these series of articles interesting and thought it might be useful to others as well.

Initially I saw an article on Gear Diary titled “Rights as a Photographer”.   The article can be found HERE which also contains a link to the “Ten Commandments of Photography“.

Additionally I’ve been following a discussion on one of the major genealogy programs user groups regarding copyright and one post listed a link to copyright fundamentals as related to Genealogy.  Click HERE for that information.

We recently read an article on Geneasofts regarding the Online Education Database list of 250+ online digital libraries and archives.  (focus on localized, regional, and U.S. history)

This excellent resource can be found HERE but be prepared to spend a LOT of time!

This entry will be a twist on a typical blog posting.   I don’t have much information to share on this topic, instead I’m looking for your commentary.

The question of the day

Have you ever been to a genealogy library or other research facility where you were not allowed entry with a laptop?   I’ve had issues in the past where bags and briefcases were not allowed, I can understand that rule as they are trying to circumvent theft, but a ban on laptops seems a little more unusual.

The topic came up from a Pocket Genealogist user who was pleased because they were able to carry their information on a PDA since they no longer could use a laptop at their favorite library.

Has this ever happened to you?  What’s the policy at your library?

Welcome to the new Northern Hills Software blog on topics of Mobile Genealogy.   We’ve tossed around the idea of hosting a blog for some time and have finally decided to take the leap!   This blog will contain articles on new devices or software, tips, tricks and other items related to Pocket Genealogist and just about anything else that we think you might find useful.
